OCDS

CBT for OCD in Norwich and across the UK.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can take many forms, but most follow a similar cycle. An intrusive thought, image or urge creates anxiety or doubt, leading to a compulsion intended to make things feel safe or more certain. This may bring brief relief, but strengthens the cycle and makes intrusive thoughts more likely to return.

CBT helps you to understand what keeps this cycle going and learn a different way of responding. Rather than trying to eliminate intrusive thoughts or achieve complete certainty, you learn to tolerate discomfort without relying on rituals, avoidance or reassurance. Over time, the thoughts become less powerful and PCD gradually loses its grip.

OCD is not always about cleaning or checking. Below are some of the less recognised ways it can appear.

OCD is not always about cleaning or checking. Below are some of the less recognised ways it can appear.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can range from mildly distressing to completely overwhelming, affecting almost every aspect of daily life. There are many different forms of OCD, but most follow a similar cycle: an intrusive thought, image or urge triggers anxiety or discomfort; a compulsion is then carried out to reduce that distress. While this may provide short-term relief, it reinforces the cycle, making the intrusive thoughts more likely to return.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps you understand how you have become caught in this “OCD trap”. Together, we identify the patterns that keep OCD going and develop practical strategies to respond differently to intrusive thoughts and tolerate uncertainty. As the cycle is broken, the anxiety gradually reduces and OCD loses its grip.

Please see the list below to see the different ways in which OCD can manifest:

🟢 Intrusive thoughts about own sexuality.
🟢 Reassurance seeking.
🟢 Intrusive thoughts about things that disgust you.
🟢 Taking photos to reassure yourself later.
🟢 Excessive uncertainty about a  relationship.
🟢 Superstitious thinking and behaviour.
🟢 Becoming overly aware of autonomic processes,
       such  as blinking.
🟢 Jealousy in otherwise healthy relationship.
🟢 Fixating over something that happened in the
        past.
🟢 Needing things to feel 'right.'
