CBT for depression

CBT for Depression in Norwich and across the UK.

In CBT, depression is understood as a cycle involving low mood, difficult thoughts and changes in behaviour. It may follow an obvious loss, such as bereavement, a relationship ending, retirement or injury - but sometimes there is no single identifiable cause.

When people feel low, they often withdraw from activities and relationships, which can reduce opportunities for enjoyment, achievement and connection. CBT helps you to understand what is maintaining this cycle and make manageable changes that can gradually improve your mood.

While depression affects everyone differently, the below steps can be a helpful starting point.

✅  Maintain a daily routine:
Structure can provide grounding, though it
should be kept simple to avoid feeling
         overwhelmed.

✅  Get daily physical movement:
Even brief or light activity can help release
         chemicals that improve mood.

✅  Manage alcohol consumption:
Cutting back helps, as alcohol is a
         depressant that disrupts sleep and
         mood stability.

✅  Practice being kind to yourself
Respond to difficult days with patience rather

        than self-criticism.

✅  Get outside in the light:
Natural sunlight helps regulate sleep cycles
and can combat seasonal low mood.

✅  Connect with supportive people:
         Reaching out helps counter isolation,
though should be done in small,
         low pressure ways.
