Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps you understand how your thinking, feelings and behaviour impact on your quality of life.

CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful patterns in order to develop healthier and more affirming life choices. CBT is usually focussed on the present and the development of skills and resources you can use long after therapy ends.

This approach tends to work best for people who are ready to engage in therapuetic work between sessions.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based psychological therapy focussed on resolving traumatic memories and negative life experiences.

While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, EMDR engages the nervous system in bi-lateral stimulation (eye movements, audio, tactile) while the therapist supports you in focussing on past and current difficulties.

During this process, new connections are made, emotional reactions are reduced and a felt sense of 'it's in the past' is established. 

Russell Wharton is an EMDR Europe approved Consultant with over 15 years of EMDR practice. Russell has worked extensively with psychological trauma over his twenty year career.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a compassionate and practical form of therapy that helps people change the way they relate to difficult thoughts and feelings. Rather than trying to get rid of distress, ACT focuses on helping people make space for it, so it has less power over their lives.
 

The aim is to help people live more fully and meaningfully, guided by their values rather than fear, self-doubt, or avoidance. ACT combines mindfulness, self-awareness, and practical strategies to build greater psychological flexibility and resilience.
